I have a similar setup using a 3 phased motor controlled through a frequency inverter, but at low speeds the motor gets too little cooling from its fan.
is this a problem with your winder?
Not at all, because the drill is actually built for low speed, high torque applications. Great thing is, for varnishing I put a weight on the pedal and find the speed I want and let it run.

Nice gadget Here's one thing I always wondered- You have a 220V motor, does this mean the contraption needs a 240V supply, or can the inverter run it off 120V?
Madskaizer, if your motor gets too hot you could maybe try reprogramming the drive to put less voltage on the motor. Some VSDs have a voltage boost that kicks in to keep the torque high at low frequencies, maybe you can turn that down or even off.
Of course, if you need all the torque, you'll just have to fit a blower driven by a separate motor.

Hm- why stop there when you can make the machine guide the wire too, so both of your hands are free? Should not be too hard with all the gadgets you have around sir.
