Hi Chris,

WOW.....thats one cool DRSSTC driver!!
and powerfull too!
I take it that its a primary feedback/steve Ward type circuit?
What sort of primary peak current will you be setting your overcurrent
to trip at?
and what dimension coil are you going to drive?

I think i've said this loads before.....so i'll say it again...lol
your workmanship and effort you put into your projects is
VERY imperssive!.....not only do they perfom great, they all
look like a work of art too!
just send the $10 in the post!...... cheesey

Mel.

Ooh, pretty! I really like the look of that MMC, but won't it get hot? Are you going to have forced air cooling on it?

Why the caps should be hot??? In case yours are hot something is wrong with them...

BTW: Cool coil... amazed

Same reason those induction heaters use water-cooled capacitors, there is absurd amounts of reactive power going through these caps. The RMS currents are particularly high for DRSSTCs, and you cant get past I*I*R power loss.

Chris, im worried that you only have 3 caps in series. Whats the total cap value? And you mention 1800A peak at some frequency, so uhh you do the math, but it sure sounds like you will be blasting those caps with far too much voltage. Ive found out a number of times what that does in a DRSSTC, you get pretty blue light from your capacitor, and then smoke, sort of like a disco but even worse.
