I'm using a home made choke on my coil now. It consist of about 2500 turns of 26 gauge wire with a laminated core. Inductance is 4.5 henrys . (pictured below)
I have used a bunch of MOTs for a charging choke before. I like to use about 8 of them in series to be sure the high voltage doesn't break them down.

If you are going to use MOT's, you need to cut in an air gap.
I think that much easier solution could be fluorescent lamp ballast chokes. Size them for your rated current (40W ones should be enough I think) and use several in series to gain inductance and voltage rating.

Roger, what did you use to insulation for the layers?
There are about 25 layers of windings and each layer of winding is insulated from the next with several layers of packaging tape. Instead of starting each layer of winding from where the last layer ended I apply some insulation and run the wire to the other end , cover it with insulation and start winding from there. This reduces the maximum voltage between windings by half.
3 MOT's in series would not work?
It might work, all I know is that I tried two once and it burnt them up. Maybe it would have helped if I had used air gaps. I have never done that with MOTs. My new charging choke has lots of air gap.

I understand!
Because I'm willing to use MOT as Choke, is easier, but estpu seeing that it is more complicated at the point where the tension it is low, the same is doing a better then.
What is the value of inductance that if I do make a choke?
