Well it all went off with a "Bang" and seemed to be a big success. It was opened by the Premier of our state with an audience of 200. Covered by 5 TV stations (7,9,10, WIN, SBS and also the bang went out live on FM radio). I didn't get home in time to catch TV coverage on other channels but the WIN TV news showed a shot of the bang and later in that segment a long shot of my mini TC with a small boy drawing sparks onto a hand held neon light. It was quite funny watching 3 big news cameras jockeying for close positions (despite my warnings) then finding they were getting hash in their viewfinders.
Took 2 days to travel 300k each way (mostly in the rain) and setup.
I couldn't take a lot of shots myself but my wife took video from an elevated position.
The shot below is of of a much lower power shot than the actual one but I needed a shot of less intensity.
I used about 4kJ (5kV) and the 1 inch foil strip of aluminium igniting probably doubles that.
The premier had a red button to push (12V) which turned on a red light for me, then I started a switched series of lights as a 5 to 1, Fire countdown when I then pulled the cord to pull the plastic spacer and fire the switch. I also had some sparklers to follow but these didn't ignite despite and alcohol soaked "fuse".

I really dig the ion lifter and I'd like to make one for the CSULB Science Learning Center. What kind of voltage level are you using there TDU?

I was actually interested to know if anyone has done anything similar as part of an event.

All my info is here. I used a regulated 30kV supply that I got from eBay.
