The caps in TC use must be overated. The primary coil works as the autotransformer and induce pretty high voltage spikes. Also, the system works in very high frequency and the ability of a cap to deal with HV decreases with increasing frequency...
Myabe 25KV in this case is litle bit overkill, but still you need at least twice the used voltage (rather more). The self made caps will most likely make better job for your TC than your ceramic ones. Foil caps are the best, but cost money...

I think you can try to make your own ones, If it works poor buy one foil caps, if works ok, stay with it. Because if you burn one of your caps its not a big problem, you can make another. But if you kill a comercial cap, you need to buy one new.

hehe I have the same problem when doing something, but if you get a good work, you can hide it inside the tc box :D My first SGTC with flyback I made a Leyden Jar made from a jar from coke of 500mL with water with salt inside. Outside I put some Aluminium foil and inside only a wire in the middle. It worked good and can get a few nF of capacitance.
ok i made some foil capacitors... dunno capacitancy and V, but wort to try...
now i am making SG, and few questions:
should i set up it for less kV or more? HV supply is capable of 10kV, so i can setup it between 5-8kV, but as i know bigger voltage on primary -> longer sparks on secondary. But it is important for setup because of capacitors i made...
foil i am using is from "plastic cover for paper notebooks", it has appx. 0.05mm...
