60Kg of Am241 is fissable... 1kg is SCARY radioactive... never EVER got that much to test. I have been up to several dozen Millicuries.
It requires a BIG +120lb heavy PIG of lead to make it safe to transport.

Well anyways, my Geiger Counter does not react much to the Am241 in smoke detector. All it does is a tiny bit more then my background radioactivity.

By the way. I am using a Kvarts DRSB-88.

Its because your counter isnt able to detect alphas. There is a small amount of gamma radiation from those pellates that makes it through your probe to register the small reading you see.
