well you could simplify mine even more by making it a class e coil and ditching the gate drive tranny. It would be like Wards except keep the nands and discrete drivers. Even more simple.

Has anybody btw tried with Tom's design yet?
I have a little question about that design. Is there any disadvantage in teh gate drive because the transistors wired in the opposite way? I heard NPN transistors have better characteristics at high power than PNP transistors. And aren't the PNP transistors rotated wrong way in the schematic?
Or is the gate drive part fine as is?

Im going to have to second that. I built this thing awhile ago and can say it is quite easy and very simple. I was able to REALLY push it too! You would be amazed at how simple it is. I didnt even use a start up IC, just touched the antenna wire and it would come on...Unless your going discrete for the sake of that, I would reccomend steves circuit; easily gain some confidence!
