All good news then. 300 volts, wow, you must have quite a bit of paitence!

just to try it out you could take a small electric motor and atach a balenced weel with skrews in it. then mount some skrews that are adjustible from the out side. It is about 1 millimeter per 1kv and you can easaly adjust RPM with motor voltage

The problem is that most small electric motors have at least 1mm of slop on the shaft. Maybe if you could get some kind of precision motor for high-end electronics or something?

The 'problem' with low voltage repetetive spark gaps is
the very small airgap is hard to quench,
a little bit of surface degradation leads to power arcing.
This depends upon current density I believe,
so low voltage airgaps are also limited to low currents,
so a high voltage/power/speed IGBT is probably better
and a lot more efficient
as i believe the voltage dropped across an airgap is >100V
(work functions etc)

Use radioactive gap surfaces, the radiation will ionize the air.

I've got some pure (non-doped) tungsten rod on the way, as well as my 2 942C for the tank cap, so results will be soon. TIG electrodes come doped with thorium to some extent, and some pre-ionization would help the gap tuning a bit. I might try that, I'll check some prices at my hardwares store. Would there be a way to dope the electrode myself? I'd figure some thorium nitrate solution to plate the tungsten a bit, but then its directly exposed to the arc, which could put it in the air. Would putting a bit of americium under the gap help much? Such as a dot from a smoke detector? They're suposed to ionize the air for the detector, but would it be powerful enogh for the gap in close proximety?

Just received my capacitors, and with no tuning, no topload, and spark gap made of steel(terrible) I've got 1 inch streamers! Best strike is 3 inches so far. The gap runs fine, took minimal efforts to tune. The real test will be with tungsten in a few days.

If you go to digi-key they have little spark gaps for ESD purpasses. They come in flavors of 230v to 2500v some can take up to 20ka. Now I dont know how much average power they disapate but they are only 2-3 bucks ea. look under ESD or surge arrester or page 1302 of the moast current digi-key catalog

I already suggested sampling those... It was decided that they wouldn't hande the power angry
