I want to upgrade my SSTC to the royer circuit:

Royer0001

I want to run it off 12V SLA battery, so the feedback windings should be 2t instead of 1t in order to get 12V gate drive voltage for the fets, or am I wrong? I'm gonna use IRFZ44 MOSFETs.

Then another question, what is the 100uH choke exactly for? Could I leave it out? I haven't got any toroidal cores currently handy. Or could I use one of these radio ferrite rods? How many turns I should wind on it?

the choke is for suppressing any voltage kickback spikes from the flyback ir sstc in this case and for mine i got a fettite toroid about 1"dia and wound 32 turns on it with 20 awg wire.

No, the choke is to make a more-or-less ac constant current supply. It is needed for proper operation.

EDIT: oops, I and jmartis were posting the same time
Could I use a ferrite rod then?

I think yes but you will need a lot of turns to get the needed inductance. Rather use a gapped ferrite EI/EE/UU core or an iron powder toroid.

What kind of cap do you use before the inductor?Im going to make this.

How could this circuit be audio modulated or interrupted? Should the power supply be modulated/interrupted? How could this be done?

Place a transistor with the emitter on the negative supply and the collector on the negative side of the circuit. Connect the audio source's negative side to the emitter and positive to the base on the transistor.

I was playing with this circuit and plan to try it out at a later date with more input voltage and is very simular to yours. it does oscilate and I got about 1/4" of the output . It dose not sound like much but it has a voltage transfirmation of 250:1. try Link2 for a simular circuit

Teravolt, there are a few errors in the schematic you posted. First the center tap of the driven winding is grounded when it should be connected to V+. Second, this is a current driven inverter so you will need a choke in series with your V+ rail that is connected to the ct of the driven winding. Also, what’s up with the diodes and the resistors? These are not necessary for a classic royer oscillator, why the changes?
