I am also 16, but turning 17 in 2 weeks!! shades Unlike all the other 16 year old geniuses here, I didn't know a thing about electronics until I joined the forum about half a year ago. I was always interested in electronics though and downloaded many schematics, waiting for the day when I knew how to build them. Then I found some HV sites and was amazed by the sparks and arcs, and conveniently I also had an ancient 15" monitor at my disposal. Since then I've been hooked.

Other then HV, I was into Tae Kwon Do like Simon, except I only made it to blue belt... tongue Better than white I guess, and at least I stayed with it for a few years. I've also moved between Canada and Norway twice in the last five years. The weirdest part is coming back and seeing how stuff has changed. Wasting time gaming is more like a bad habit, but I should call it a hobby too.

Long live fro's, Wilson!!!!

Hello. My name is Jonathan - just your average guy. I had interests in solar energy as a child as well as HV, chemistry, and math in High School. Built my first TC in 9th grade, but never did much with them after that time. I got interested in pyrotechnics for a while. Went to Dartmouth, graduated with an engineering degree in 3yrs (I had a lot of AP credits that placed me out of intro math, chem and physics classes); founded a software company and sold some assembly language programs to the now defunct Central Point Software company. Many of the early screen savers are based on my ideas like the bouncing lines or balls you see now. Right now my company sells medical billing software.

I decided to go into medicine and I am now a cardiovascular anesthesiologist at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. I am chief of the Thoracic division and I am simulaneously boarded in intraoperative echocardiography. Recently I was named a Board Examiner for my specialty for which there are maybe 200 hundred in the entire USA.

My interests include carpentry, waterskiing, Jujitsu, and flying. I forgot to mention that I got my private pilots license when I was about 20. I am interested in math and electronics theory and every now and then I will build a small project or repair some device.

Most of my time is devoted to my wife and daughter, whom I love very much. I wouldn't personally call myself a genius - it is a relative term.

Hey all, I'm Alex, currently 16.

Got started in electronics back a couple years ago when I built an air cannon that used a solenoid valve. Wiring it up was pretty cool, so I decided to go farther. Hense, here I am cheesey

I'm in Robotics at school, where we compete in a Provincial competition for awards [and just for fun cheesey its a blast! We stay after school until close to 11 at night, machining aluminum and working out design issues, as well as eating a truckload of pizza shades ] It involves a lot of metal fabrication and design, which I love. Heres a link to this years site: Link2

If you navigate yourself to the 'CONFERNCE CALL' page, you can read along all the questions the different schools asked (including us!) in a huge teleconfrense to kick start the season. You'll eventually come upon one school's question which reads something along the lines of, "Can our robot fly?". They ask this almost every year! Scroll down and you'll find one of our questions: "Can we use anti-aircraft weaponry?" cheesey Hense my sig.

I'm quite out-there, at least thats what my shop teacher says tongue I brought in one of my flybacks and showed them how [and why] it works. For some reason HV gets everyone's attention cheesey And it makes learning...dare I say it...fun!

Next year in school [Lockview High, and proud of it shades ] I'm taking Physics 11 Advanced, Chem 11 [Hopefully Advanced, if the course stays open long enough :-@ ], Mathmatic's 11 Advanced, ProTech 12 etc

Hoping to become something along the lines of a machinest or electromachanical engineer. I love working with tools and metals.

Other things: I play paintball, I shoot [bow, 52" recurve], do misc. computer things, play acoustic guitar and alto saxiphone.

And thats just about everything...alright, you can all wake up now shades

Hi, my name is Rich. I currently work as a office machine technician. A few years back I had a part time job repairing test equipment and was paid in said eq. - setting up a nice shop (including scopes with bandwidth to 400 MHZ). Skiing, target shooting, winemaking, HV, and generally irritating the nieghbors are my hobbies. I have 3 sons - born 1981, 1988 and 1999. In 2000 I got into computers, started with a 500mhz celeron....now there are 5 networked, double firewalled on a dsl line (two of them are the wife's and youngest son's.... so they stay off my machines!) I found this site a few years back researching T.C's. I have collected up a bunch of parts and pieces (nst's, a 400w triode, a 30kv 250ma tranny, variacs, synchronous motors, and have even wound a couple secondarys- a 4" and a 8") but haven't had time or drive to put them together....yet. Spark-on Garth!

This forum is so cool. Most of the people my age in my town are just boring. Their idea of a good time is watching TV ...zzzk snork?
When they get to my age it'll be the pub. The one thing I really like about a bar is the pool table. I mean, do a cost-fun comparison: pint of beer vs MOSFET.

"Nerd TV"; I like that. smile

Hi, I'm Mike. I've been with the forum for about 2 years. I am 15. I am just an all around science guy, I've messed around with multiple types of high voltage, pneumatic air cannons (MASSIVE! 3 chambers 4inch Diameter 5ft long each!,) explosives, chem, computer programming / error annalysis.
Thanks for the great forum, I come here every day, multiple times per day to check out the new topics and eat up the information.

Mike

I'm Keith, I'm not a genius, and my respectful opinion is that calling oneself a genius disqualifies one from geniusdom. wink

I'm a freshman at Brandeis taking sophmore and junior physics courses because I think I'm really smart, and also because doing things people say you aren't supposed to do is entertaining.

I'll probably major in physics and something else that isn't math, which I don't like.

One time I built a tesla coil that wasn't coupled very well. Last August I built a dangerously poorly constructed coin shrinker. This is the extent of my high voltage experience.

My hobbies include doing problem sets, doing problem sets, doing problem sets, and drinking soy milk.

Sorry for the off topic (Mod delete this if you really dont want it) I just wanted to add my opinion.

I would have to agree with keith on the genius thing. But I guess some people's self esteem needs it.

On the other hand, my calling myself a wannabe-genius most definitely does not disqualify me from wannabe-geniusdom... hehehe ^^

I'd also have to add that my interests include "being indecisive" and "getting in the way". They say you should choose a career involving something you love and something you're good at! I'd make a great "person who gets in the way" wink
