a single gap should work but it will not be as efficent as a multigap.

Mot Man -

Could you provide some additional tech specs on your dual-MOT, 100" output coil?

These data would be useful:
1. Value of charging inductor (if inductance is not known, dimensions, configuration, etc would be helpful);
2. Spark gap (static, fixed speed or variable speed rotary, number of segments or electrodes, disk diameter, etc);
3. Tank cap value;
4. Primary and secondary dimensions;
5. Topload dimensions.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I know you were not asking me this question but i think i have a decent answer. the charging inductor should be around ~14H im not sure about the spark gap but variable speed rotary is my guess. the tank cap shouled bbe around 0.2uf at 20kv +- 0.1uf and i dont have a clue about any other specs on the coil.

I am still with a doubt, the charging choke can be replaced by resistors, one for each phase?

What value should i use and power of the resistors?

The 'de-Qing diode' is really necessary?

Judging that I will use two MOT in series with a voltage doubler circuit on the output.

i don't know anything about MOT_man's coil, but i bet this page will help. Link2 thanks Richie smile

i'm now in the design stage myself with a MOT-driven DC tesla coil. what i know for sure: if you're building a small coil (i.e. low power) you'll end up needing a huge inductor!!

with a resistor instead of an inductor, 50% of your supply's power will be burnt up in the resistor.

Well, I am intending to use a doubler in my 8 "coil.

two MOT in series with doubler, I believe the choke can be of lesser value?
