The IR2153 can supply peak about 300mA, thats not much. For medium gate capacitance fets, I think it will not go much above 50kHz.

Here is one if my flybacks driven to its limit. Unfortunately the camera decides to run out of memory the second before it self destructed. I can feel the arks heat about 2 feet away shades ZVS driven flyback

Hm, i downloaded and I cant run the film. RAD says there is a error in it and wmp asks codecs (cannot be true as I can surely run AVI files)...

Open it in 'virtual dub' (download link: Link2 ). Then select 'direct stream copy' in video options and 'save as AVI'.

haha! no wonder this flyback driver is so sucessfull:

DR tanks really allow the current to flow

has anyone tried incorperating Dual resonantcy into the ZVS driver?

anyway i think DR primaries are the way to go give it a try wink

I found this thread while browsing some old stuff. who said there wont be any more arcs tongue Here is one, the flyback didn't get hot at all running at this power but I couldnt put in more as the output voltage was dangerously high.

Lets see some sparks and arcs! Anything, high voltage, high current, or with homemade coils!

Do you think it's a good idea to start a new thread in the HV section where people could post any sparks and arcs, not limited to flybacks? Every HV forum seems to have such thread and I think it's a good and interesting idea wink

My god Jan that's amazing. amazed

While experimenting with flybacks and resonance points with my offline driver I could hit a point at ~200kHz where the output would suddenly increase by a tenfold. All I was ever able to do is get one crappy photo before the over-current tripped. I also tried getting some good arcs, but they're nothing compared to what you can do with flybacks. I've only ever had monitor flybacks to work with however. I would estimate the length of the spark to be around 10cm with both sparks together in the second picture.

Nice Uzzors, i never thought that there would be such high frequency point where the output would so dramaticlly increase, I always observed it to decrease with increasing freq. (higher frequency and same inductance> lower output).

Do you think its a good idea to start "Arcs and sparks" thread or would it get forgotten after a few posts as this thread originally did?

I'm not sure, personally I don't have anything else worth posting. neutral I built a resonant MOT setup like you detailed in a thread, but my camera just saturates so no pictures. You might want to throw in your best pic just so it's here, those arcs are the biggest I've ever seen from common parts.

Other than that we'll just have to wait and see! Maybe this thread could become a sticky like the post your Tesla coil here. It's also fun to see how and with what people have made various sparks and arcs.
