ok well ill make up a a proper winding tonight, ran it last nite with a temp primary and was getting around 2" sparks, what should i expect from this? the seconday is about 12" tall 3 1/2in diameter.

All depends on how much voltage you are applying to the bridge/secondary winding. You using a variac? At least it's working! now all you have to do is tweak it!
