I would put each bolt at about 3mm apart (edge of bolt that is, not centre to centre), and just tap at different bolts to adjust gap spacing. So if it doesn't work on the last bolt, you move the wire to the next bolt in, etc. Good luck.

today i finally put together my coil and tested it. first light... SPARKS!!!! w0w what a rush! i never thought i'd pull it off! it's still kinda crappy since i ran out of copperwire for the primary coil, i don't have a proper topload and my primary sparkgap is far from optimal but i got sparks! i'm guessing they're around 7 or 8 cm from the breakout point and around 15 cm when i draw them with a grounded wire! i uploaded some vids on youtube: i had some trouble with the daylight, it kind of ruined the visibility of the sparks and my coil isn't tuned very well but i'm working on that. if there's any advice based on the vids i'd be glad to hear it because imho 15cm is a little small for a 8kv/50mA transformer...
