Say, could a circuit like this be used to break down a energy capacitor discharge slightly wide set gap?

It would be much more involved than simply overvolting the gap but then if your capacitors were a relatively low voltage (ie. 400v electrolytics) then that would wouldn't be practical whereas this would. Then again the inductance of the coupling coil would severely limit the speed at which you could dump the caps, and electrolytics are slow as it is.

I know this topic sort of died but I'm really surprised that no one has made any sort of arc starter device on the forum (or at least any that I know about). Anyone have any ideas about a simpler way of making such a device? I've never gone through with this because I'm having trouble finding an NST for free/cheap and it seems that there must be an easier way.

I wonder if a Mazilli flyback driver would have enough power? I'm setting one up right now so we'll see. Some ferrite stuffed in the core of the main coupling coil would probably increase coupling and really help at lower frequencies. Maybe even a lot of primary turns driven by a 555 or TL494 at lower voltage?

There was someone on the old 4hv that used a flyback core with (I think) about 10 turns of 12awg wire on a ferrite flyback core in series with a stack of 12v sla gell cells. I am not sure what they were using to drive it, the mazzillii driver comes to mind, but I would assume the frequency was very high to allow a very high v/turns ratio in the core.

Such device may be much more simple.
I using for current limiting only capacitor on 2nF in primary coil's circut, driving simple with SCR.

Actually I use schematic like that for ignition of 2kJ xenon pulse lamp (I don't know why but parallel ignition not working with it). Also this is what used in tazer's shockers for better reaching target through clothes))

I'm really not sure what that means. I don't mean to offend you but you knowledge of English makes it difficult to understand. I'm not sure where the SCR comes in.
