Yes, the GTD spike thingy is "n/a" with the SISG
In Terry's original, the capacitor providing the drive is intended to charge to ~24V (TVS voltage less the drop of a diode). In Finn's BRISG, I believe he used a 35V TVS to charge the main capacitor so as to overcome the gate capacitance of the brick before the SIDACs were overwhelmed by primary currents exceeding ~100A. However, if the gate capacitance is more than overcome as a result, the 33V gate TVS might potentially allow the gate to be overvolted for a period far exceeding the short spikes you'd get from GDT operation in other SSTC topologies.... I'm guessing. Would love for Finn to chime in here with his thoughts, being as he is the "BRISG Guy". At present, my inclination is to essentially swap the positions of the TVS's in Terry's design (when driving bricks).
