Very funny smile And think, today I bought a used 2kg 21 000uF 100V electrolytic capacitor for 7 dollars. After I saw those Chinese ones, I wonder if I didn't buy a fake tongue

Nice funny pic. cheesey The real capacitors are 35V and it looks like the fakes are "rated" for 50V, that's mean.

But, hey, don't underestimate those capacitors - they have a protection for blowing electrolytic. So I don't think they're so no-no professional tongue

Wow! That's cheek!

I suppose you could tell straight away by the weight, right? Until they fill them, that is.

Ha!! This is some great geek-humor smile About the only thing geekier would be "Chinese Pole Pig" (picture a 25kVA 14.4kV pig with a tiny audio impedance matching transformer dangling by its own leads from the underside of the lid, can filled with lead-based paint--they've gotta use it for something now, right?)

I imagine this "capacitor" thing has got to be fake. The solder joints are a bit questionable, but not nearly bad *enough*.

Cheers,
Aaron, N7OE

Astounding -- a classic example of Chinese business ethics. It's not a problem for them; they've already got their money.

I've come across some fake electrolytics too -- I was curious because the case "sounded" hollow, and could be flexed/squeezed. The rolled aluminium/electrolyte inside only occupied about half the diameter and half the height of the capacitor, but they didn't have the gall (back then) to re-encapsulate an electrolytic in a larger can.

Thankyou Kreso for this atrocious evidence! =-)

I suppose it's alright if you're careful where you buy your components!

Back at my old work place they bought several thousand rifa caps off what they call the 'grey market', to use in production. Several months later, appliances were failing out in the field - with a large bang and nasty smoke. This resulted in a product recall. After a bit of investigation, the caps had been stored badly (in a damp warehouse) for over 10 years!

Any guesses as to who would distribute these crazy things?
