if you can find 2 carbon rods and use them as your electrodes you can make a arc lamp that will burn at 1000c or at least to melt metals and ceramics. caution extreamly bright.

Dr Dark Current:
Your circuit, what could be the the result if you replace the 50mF capacitor with a 50~~ 200 ohm ballast ? The ballast may be a primary of a microwave oven transformer, the core as to be open separating the "E" core from the "I' core. The gap between the "E" and "I" may be adjusted from 0.1 to 5mm.
The equivalent circuit of a buzz box match with your circuit ....

Dr.DC, would cap of this sort work ? Supposedly they're used in cars, refrigerators, various pumps, etc. Oh, and could you reupload the vid, if you have it, of course?

The cap would work, after all it has AC written on it... BTW on 120 volts you will need 4x higher capacitance for the same output power. I don't know if I have the vid, it is really long ago and it was pretty lame so I removed it.

I've got it from disassembled kettle, so it's just the heating element (coil). Anyway, I got 50uF cap, and it works even better. Arc sounds like a MOT, but is much hotter. It melts nails in seconds, burns through metal containers like nothing. Don't do it near flammable stuff, lol.
