That is very cool. (For those who can't access the video, it's a demo animation made by feeding a programmed output from a computer soundcard into a scope in XY mode. A slick animation, at that.)

I think it's probably quite dependent on things like the phosphor type (persistance time) coupled with the scope bandwidth and maybe also the top-end response of the soundcard. Worked OK on my Tek 2465A, and even passably on my Agilent 6034 digital.

Pong was my first 'scope 'hack' ! (c1976)
An ic came out that was 'pong-on-a-chip', I can't remember the p/n. Anyway, at work I organised ten of us techies to build kits, I got a price break on ten units. all the artwork, etching etc. was done in-house. When we'd completed the project - minus rf modulator, we wanted to test the boards, how?
One 'scope triggered on the vertical frequency feeding it's X-out to Y-in of a second 'scope the second 'scope was triggered on the horizontal frequency, with the video signal going to Z-mod VOILA ! pong on a 'scope!
