Actually, another shop assistant anecdote.

We had one regular customer who kept buying alarm systems and returning them when they weren't "good enough". She was obviously suffering from paranoia. Once my colleague answered a call from her and she was talking really quietly and furtively. After asking her politely to speak up, he got the answer, "Sorry, I always use my phone in the car so I don't get bugged but this time I can't and I'm forced to use my home phone."

It must be really hard living with severe paranoia.
