Hi

Aren't 3 amp diodes sort of an overkill for few tens of miliamps from flyback? amazed
But it probably won't matter.. smaller diodes have smaller capacitance, though. Are you using resistors in parallel with diodes? I'm curious about what you think about that.

Oh, and why do you need 'triggering flyback'? You need it to be controllable for some reason?

Christopher,
where did you get that nice big fat flyback transformer from?

Hi Sulaiman, Christopher amazed

where did you get that nice big fat flyback transformer from?

He actually has at least 3, bought *new*.

Chris: where are those odd heatsinks from?
I *know* that you can do the Royer oscillator better than wire budged mess, maybe with some acrylic in the base of Marx itself? tongue

Really, you could only replace that ferrite inductor with powdered iron. Or use less turns at least, #77ferrite has u of like 2000, #26 only 75.

I see your Marx is pretty much standard design in overall.. how are you going to connect resistors, caps and gaps together? Steve Ward used padded wires, but they look like badger to mount and I don't know if their look satisfies you.

Maybe you could use a larger etched PCB? I know you think it will hide your precious acrylic, but if you lift it like several millimeters from the acrylic surface I think it could look very good and professional. amazed

Still sitting in chair drinking a cold one deciding on how to connect resistors and caps, buttttttttttt it will come to me after another cold one, MAN IT IS HOT OUTSIDE!

I really think a PCB would look great.. I'l be building a miniature marx soon and I paln to do something similar. Your problem may be etching the PCB of that size, but I'm sure you'l fix it.

I decided to use three flybacks for the main power and one for the trigger. More pictures in a few.

I don't think you need that much flybacks.. one per marx should be more than enough as I think, and 30kV is not too much really. You can push like 100-200W with one of those, and with 11,25 joules you can get a lot of firings per second..

Marx don't really require much of a power input.

By the looks of it, the gaps are wired the wrong way (across each cap), when they fire they just short out the caps.

Other than that its a beautiful job.
