Here in the Nordic countries it's not so easy to get gate drive ICs
The "Telcom" TC4421 and TC4422 gate driver chips are available from Microchip direct (worldwide to the best of my knowledge.) They are capable of sourcing 9A peak current which is more than adequate for most applications, and are available with TO-220, PDIP, and SOIC leadframes.

mhh uzzors. i dont think that your new shematic would work.
why not add an amplifier to boost the feedback signal? i doubt that sec feedback is strong enough to drive irf630fets at several hundrets of khz. . why not add a simple 74hc14 feedback circuit, then amplify the output with a push pull of some bipolar transistors, then feed this into a complementary stage of n and p channel mosfets to drive your gdt.
your circuit isnt going to start oscillation from itself. i build several discrete sstcs and even in my new drsstcs i use a discrete driver stage

Those circuits were pretty much just novelty SSTCs. Over the last six months I've found a few ICs cost less than the equivalent amount of transistors, save time and do a better job. I have sampled a few UCC's and they make SSTC building as easy as Lego. However I don't like relying on samples or uncommon parts, which is why I bother with discrete drivers. Those schematics are very early concepts, and I now use 4046's for my TC's. PLL rocks in so many ways I'll never change to anything else. A buffer chip costs almost as much and takes just as much board space, so why not?
