Hi

I've been taking some lightning pics lately. What we all love are large sparks, and nature still makes biggest sparks of all.
My vantage point and camera are both poor, and I missed some really nice lightning.

Hi BP

Pics are taken with Olympus C50, with maximum possible exposure (8 seconds) and minimal ISO of 80.

The first pic has color messed up due to my carelessness, but I didn't want to edit anything.

Now all I need is to catch more storms, maybe even this night if i'm lucky...

holy S@#$, we just had the strangest storm. there was no evidence, but then, as i was fixing my computer, a huge lightning bolt hit the tree about 8 meters away!!!!!! suprised the wierd thing was though, there was no evidence there was a storm even there, no wind, no rain, nothing. then came that lightning bolt. there was about 3 more strikes elsewhere after that, then it was gone without a trace?????

Positive lightning bolt? I've heard they travel a lot farther then the normal bolt and are higher currents.

it could have been, but i don't know what it looked like or anything, i just saw the flash on the floor, but as soon as it was gone i looked out the window, and the top of the tree was glowing red. the wierd thing i don't understand is how it came without any signs, and left after 3 flashes and 3 seconds of rain???

sorry for this double post, i found some good info on wikipedia. it was infact a positive strike, and the reasons were explained on wikipedia. "and can strike tens of kilometres/miles from the clouds" that's why it came out of nowhere. "Positive lightning has also been shown to trigger the occurrence of upper atmosphere lightning. It tends to occur more frequently in winter storms" yep it's winter here and that's probably why there were 3 more little strikes afterwards. so i think my lightning bolt was a positive one, thanks guys! wink now wheres some more lightning pics?
