"works" is a relative term here, and I don't think you understand that formula. Please spend some time learning the differences between "series" and "parallel", between "ballasting" and "power factor correction", between "shunted" and "non-shunted" transformers, and just generally do some reading before you ask questions. I'm sure the mods and admins would agree that the purpose of this board isn't merely to give people just enough information so that they can go cobble something together and kill themselves.

Somebody please euthanize this thread.

The simplest ballast for a MOT is to use the MO cap in series with the secondary. (I'm not sure how well this works but I think I saw it somewhere; if my calculations are right the output short circuit current should be a bit over an amp)

I've moved this from the projects board - which is only for showcasing and discussing the specifics of projects that are well under way, not general how-to discussion.

Eclipse: I recommend you take the advice of some of the experienced members here and do plenty more reading before touching a MOT. It's not just safer but you'll get a lot more out of the experimentation.

Perhaps tinkering with less dangerous HV equipment first would be a good idea.
