Maybe its because i have been on both extremes, but i don't think comparing grades is worth anything. In HS i had a high 3. something GPA. In jr. college i often had 4.0 semesters, and a few Bs, all the while i never really tried too hard. At UIUC, i cant seem to get better than a B in any of my upper EE classes (despite a lot of hard work) and now i have like a 2.5 or something technical GPA. When i got my first C i was kind of sad actually, but now i'm quite used to the fact that simply passing a class is satisfying enough on its own! I shouldn't complain, i know of a lot of rather brilliant people who simply cant handle the math in order to get an engineering degree, which really sucks. BTW, i thought i was *great* at math until going to UIUC :P. So it shows you that comparing grades is kinda pointless.

I dont think id ever judge someone by their grades alone.

Thanks for letting us outside the US know that it's "You calculate your gpa by giving yourself 4 points for an A (90-100+%), 3 for a B (80-90%) 2 for a C (60-70%) and 1 for a D (50-60%), and some classes (advance placement or honors depending on who is counting) get an extra point added on."
How many subjects do you take?

If you divide my UK school career into two portions, then my equivalent (A=4 etc) gpa is 4 across maths, sciences etc, and 0.5 for languages, arts, PE etc (well rounded individual or not?) Fortunately, I don't need to make my living by illustrating the history of French athletes.

My most pleasing acheivement was getting 102% in an internal maths exam when I was about 14. I challenged the teacher afterwards and he said that he'd allocated 13 marks to each of 8 questions, as "it was so tough that no-one would get near a perfect score".

I didn't really apply myself in High School or College getting a 3.2 GPA in college.

Just about everyone in my High School were partyers so I ended up graduating 19th out of 120 students. Not bad for not studying and never doing my home work.

If I had it all to do over I would definately party more.

Boy do I covet all of your abilities in math!Math is my worst subject and I try so damn hard in it!Me, taking electrical engineering? "Hahah" people say frown

I did make it to calc2 (currently taking) but that was after alot of blood, sweat, a TEARS!I understand it all well, but cant calm down come test time. I choke up and my mind gets all foggy!

I do well in history and science though. Blew PE away! (Hey, i used to play for a national championship college football team here! wink )

Managed to earn a BA on the side in classics. (Basically ancient history). I am free to request the degree whenever I decided I no longer like the free grant money!

I was very nearly a 4.0 student in high school.

In college, it was a very different story. I did very well in all my major coursework, but in all the silly "general education requirements" courses I was forced to take, all I could do was scrape by. I always had too many projects on the side to be bothered with my required history reading, for example smile S'pose I was always irritated by the volume of seemingly impertinent junk one is forced to endure in a Bachelor of Science degree program. Fortunately, I did escape with the degree I set out to obtain, said degree got me the job I've now had for almost ten years, etc., etc., and that's what matters, right? wink Well, ok, if I ever decided I wanted to go back to grad school, I might have some explaining to do, but...

Cheers,
Aaron, N7OE

I used to get BAD testing anxiety. I found that taking a 5mg valium (I had a Rx for it) would help a LOT. I was worried that I'd be all buzzed out on pills, but the opposite was how it went... I was calm and focused and as a result did better - not great - but better.

In the end it was demographics that got to me.... not so much the fundamentals of engineering - but the people in the classes. 50:1 male to female ratio in most classes ... discouraging for a young guy with marginal social skills.

Art school was much better shades

High School = C- ~ B average
College 3.67 .03 from honors (upon graduation)
I guess that shows I know more or care more about electronics then GED's.

I got straight As through highschool (only 1 mark below 80% in 4 years) ; my cumulative grade for my 1st two terms at university was 79%, which I'm quite proud of because I attended almost no lectures 2nd term and nearly had to drop out because of medical issues.
That is the extent of my education to this point. But do the numbers really matter? I'm with Steve Ward; comparing grades is rather pointless. All but a few exceptions of the smartest people I've ever met had better things to worry about.
... and this coming from a guy who hates parties! suprised
(yeah, I'm the one who entertains the houseplants. somebody has to, right?)
