OK have finally got some more done on the worlds slowest project lol! I was going to shelve the DRSSTC for now but after digging out the parts following a house move I realised how close I am to completing. I have all but finished populating the driver board now and have the bridge built also (will post pics this week if get chance)
I need to do some final soldering, then I can run up the board and test for operation along with phasing gates etc. I am looking forward to running some power through this coil as I am hoping for big things. i think running 600nf cap and a couple of 200amp bricks should process some power.

Hi Colin, Good to hear that the project is still going (not the worlds fastest project....hehe) but i do understand how 'every day life' can get in the way.
What bridge drive will you be using for the bricks? direct from a GDT?

Go man go. Is your DRSSTC going to be done before mine, hee hee.
History: We both ordered the same parts and started on a 1/2 bridge DRSSTCs, mine is Stoker 103. It will be interesting to see the performance of the two due to same driver and IGBT's.
Spark on, Ch
Damn just typed reply and my pc shutdown! Those brick sure are nice Chris;-)
I thought i had finished soldering the board until I realised that I have put 15 and 5v regulator in wrong positions. I also have a problem with the output pin of what should be the 15 v regulator is down to ground. I have a feeling though it's due to blowing them by some other prodding i did. So I had a temper tantrum in the garage and decided me and sausage fingers should retire for the evening. I will come back to this at the weekend and I won't leave workshop until it's finished and tested

Well it lives at long last!amazed
I spent some time in shop today and after some emails with Chris (thanks mate much appreciated) Finally got all the signals coming through. Powered up with battery and corrected phasing on gates and feedback transformer then a little tuning. I have moved house since last using my variac and it takes the breaker straight out. need c rated breakers as these are b. SO me being me couldn't wait till next week so fired it up at full voltage at the risk of destroying everything:-p
Charged storage caps up on doubler (2 times breaker went out) then turned break rate and on time right down. The I threw the switch..........28 inch power arc to lads moped so shut down quick. It sounded very powerful with the 320nf tank cap giving a real nice bang energy:-)
So need to get some new breakers next week then can run it at sensible voltages while i scope it all out. need to connect OCD also.

There is a small trick to overrun the variac breaking-breaker problem. Simply plug the variac while the breaker is down and than turn the breaker on twice or three times with minimum interval. Usually already the second attempt is successful and the breaker holds...
