I love that topload! What type of metal are you using as connectors in your f-bridge? Looks like Au.

Hi

Yeah using ali for the connectors. Thanks for the kind words on topload. my own design based on many other designs except it uses one continuous coil of microbore copper tubing instead of rings. so easy to make.

Cheers

Colin

It is just me who finds the topload overly large - or the secondary overly small?

The ϱ = RHO of Au (Aluminium) is at 20 °C 26.50 nΩ•m and ϱ of Cu (Copper) is at 20 °C 16.78 nΩ•m so i think you rather should get some copper to use rather then Aluminium.

Thanks for the kind words. I was waiting to see who would take the bait wink

The secondary is just one i had kicking about. I will be winding a 6" x 30" in the near future.

Bridge is almost finished now and will wait for the drive cards to arrive before i finish that section.

Next up is the pneumatic rise and fall coupling control for the secondary to mount on.

Cheers

Colin

The aluminum buss work will be fine.

I agree.. superb toroid smile. It should have very low eddy losses since you wound it as a spiral instead of rings. It kinda makes me want to make one now since it just looks so cool and industrial.

Hi Steve,

I came up with the idea when a uk source for spun toroids didnt come through.

It was easy to make to. I used a rotary table and milling machine but same result could be had witha protractor, drill and hacksaw.

It took a 25m reel of copper tube and some lexan which i had as offcuts froma job but could use other materials such as polystyrene or pvc pipe sliced.

Yeah i was comfortable with the ali, being low duty cycle use.

cheers

Colin
