That jeweling sure does look good! You have got a beautiful effect there and i will try the same at the weekend if i get a chance. I hadn't thought about the preparation of the material prior to jeweling. I went for small circles to fit the size of the panel but i think larger will look less "busy" in a good way.

i will post any results but i think i had better concentrate on building the base this weekend.

Cheers

Colin

Hi All,
Here is a pic of the primary progress. The primary uprights are complete but the top and bottom rings require milling yet.
it gives a rough idea of how it should look.

Next weekend i will finish the plastics and add the copper.

Cheers

Colin

Just to mention before it's too late, you shouldn't be in too much trouble to add 4 more supports and have 8 in overall.

Any time I tried to make a primary held only by 4 plastic supports I couldn't prevent turns from shorting. It may have worked if pipe was new and nicely formed, but still.

6 supports is fine, 8 more than good...

Hi Mel,
I used 20mm thick PE. I got a 6'x4' sheet for free!!!!

This stuff is lovely to machine. the base will be made from this also. Going for some fancy LED lighting effects though to brighten it up a bit. if i ever get some more donei will post pictures. Will probably be in september now. at this rate i may have this finished for next years derby!

Cheers

Hi All,
Finally got a chance to get onto the coil again. I have almost finshed base now. Just some feet to add now.

Working on the bridge now

Hi All,
Well specs should be as follows:

secondary 6x 30" 0.2mm i think but will have to check that as going by memory
Bridge will be a half bridge of Siemens 200A 1200V IGBT bricks (Cheers Chris!!!!)
4400uF storage
300nF MMC
Drive will be Steve Wards current limit driver
A different toroid design that should be easy to make.
I am hoping to have some little extras for special effects but will keep them quite for now >_<
Cheers

Hi All,
Here is a picture of my toroid. I got inspiration from the huge tubular toroids used on big coils.

First pic shows Plexi former. Second is with copper mounted. it is still lashed togther with cable ties but will be retained by fine copper wire when finished.

Cheers

Colin
