Well I decided to take apart the battery pack which was quite a pain. In the process I knocked one of the surface mount capacitors off of the circuit board and now the battery does not register in the laptop.
The good news is I found replacement cells for $40 shipped, and they should be higher capacity than the current cells. Any advice on repairing the circuit though? Could I read the capacitance off of the capacitor to the right and then solder on a new capacitor assuming the same specs? Sheesh
Thanks

Buying a whole new battery pack never looked so attractive.

Okay, roger that. I found out I can get the 9-cell version for just a little more than it would cost to buy 6 replacement lithium cells anyways.
