Hi all.
I have some surplus HV capacitors (ceramic, russian "orange glaze" type) and also some conventionally wound 15KV capacitors.

Any use? I'm after some 68000 uF 35V+ capacitors in exchange, for a spot welder.

Capacitors have been tested and seem to work as far as I can tell, unfortunately the microwave diodes didn't :(

If you can help, I am happy to send the parts your way first.

Thanks, -A

Have you considered a mmc? This auction should cover it...

Yup, just need 10 of those arrays. Capacitor size required is 680,000 uF according to the article I found (voltage between 20 and 35V)

I did find four 6800uF 35V radial capacitors and also some spares from a fairly new amplifier, so this gets me up to 57200 uF which is better than nothing.

I have a 100,000uF 16V cap somewhere if it's any use to you.

Are these the capacitors that audiophile like to use on their audio equipment.

I don't think so since most audio (Car audio that is) that I know of use 1-100F caps, I could be wrong though, but Steves cap is 100mF, it would be more like a cap out of an old tv just lower voltage.

This is a 100000uF, 20V Electrolytic, I think its a bit bigger than whats in a T.V.....

Wow, I had one of these capacitors years ago. Same make and ratings. These would not deliver enuff power to spot weld.

You might want to check this out.

Tadaaa!! DSC02322 (Those are mine)

Like others have said, I'm not sure these will provide enough current for spotwelding anything substantial.

IIRC 500,000 uF at min 25V is required, so you'd need 5 in parallel.

In any case its always better to use an array of small capacitors rather than one large (and expensive, and fragile) capacitor, the ESR is always lower.

To switch, use an SCR on the -ve side as its far more precise and you can include safety systems.
