Could you use ordinary slow set (but strong) epoxy under the mount and then use UV cured stuff like Michael W sugested to tack it in place?
It's almost got to be worth trying if the real stuff is that price.

Well, I hate to use slow set stuff anywhere (since there are 6 optics that need to be set, so if I have to wait overnight for each one alignemnt could take a while), but I am thinking that some good 'ole JB weld might do the job.

I can't use the uv stuff I have now as it shrinks about 3% upon cure, so the alignment goes to crap as it cures. But, if I make a mix that is 90% filler then it should only shrink .3%, almost a resonable number (If I am careful I bet I could live with that).

Unfortunatnly, I don't think I am going to get any decent amount of filler mixed in, as I tried a sample batch of .5g talcum powder, 1g epoxy, which made a pretty thick paste, but it wasn't very solid when cured (not much better than before) and didn't stick worth jack.

So right now I trying a nice glob of thick 'gap filling' CA glue, which I dribbled a few drops of accelerator on, and we shall see how it turns out later tonight (after the 6 mile hike I am going on, about 3hrs of cure time) and I will try to seperate it from the mount tomorow afternoon. Hopefully it will be at least somewhat solid...

I also made up a test batch of jbweld, and I will see how stiff that is tomorow as well. I am thinking of using that to hold the lasers down (since CA just won't work for that methinks), and possibly reinforcing the optics. But I am worried that it might shrink as it cures, and I would hate to get everything all aligned, but then in the last step to make it as stable as possible have them all drift off and have to rip it all apart and try again. mistrust

But some good news, I finally bit the bullet and I have a violet laser diode coming in the mail from Australia. I haven't been able to find how much power it really has (it is out of a ps3), but I saw one picture where it looked at least 1/2 as bright as a 15mw green pointer, and right now I am using about 3mw green, so I have high hopes. And even if it does end up being too low power, I can always use it to retrofit a laser pointer shades Heck, even if I blow it up (it wouldn't be the first, let me tell you) it was only $90 shipped, with a bunch of other neat optics wink
