High pressure krypton arc lamps are known to explode in pulsed duty, sending glass shrapnel everywhere. Building it in a secure box might help, but doesn't fix the issue that this project would be akin to using the nichrome wire out of a toaster to wind your primary with since it can handle getting hot without issues

I think also xenon short arc lamps are not useful as a sparkgap. For the high pressure you need a high voltage. The ignition voltage of my 1600 W lamp ist 36 kV. I test it with my 8 kV neon transformer and nothing happens. With a 30 kV voltage transformer I get sparcs.
Of course they are dangerous, you must wear protection clothes.
In this lamp (7000 W) there are no sparcs between the electrodes, there are long sparcs inside along the glass bulb.

So far as I understand it, short-arc high pressure xenon lamps typically require about 50 - 60VDC, after the discharge has been initiated by an HT starter pulse of 25 - 50kV, but some have steady voltages as low as 18V or 20VDC. A constant current supply is needed to prevent thermal runaway.
