You can check your web stats, and it tells you where your visitors come from, and how many hits each file on your site gets. So if an image starts getting more hits a day than, say, your index page, then you know somethings up.

That's a nice side of it. Paying for the bandwidth isn't.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind the hotlinking so much if the photo was included on someones page as a photo with a link back to my site. But things like myspace backgrounds, no-one really cares about them anyway and they just suck bandwidth. I'm getting a much larger number of (genuine) hits on Flickr now, so it turned out alright afterall.
I'm slowly getting my bandwidth back anyway so it's working I'll probably delete all the spoof photos in a week or so.

LOL Avalanche, I'm glad I never messed with you...
My corner of the trash heap: My band is doing quite well on myspace too, we have 17,000 page views and 25,000 plays I suspect there were some OMG scr1ptz involved somewhere, but it must have been one of the other guys. My own site at scopeboy.com steadily gets about 1000 hits per day (not counting prods it gets from robots) and serves a couple of GB of random Tesla related stuff per month. I don't know if that is much, it's probably nothing compared to what, say, 4hv serves.
