USB Powered Tesla Coil - Design Study

I think it might be possible with a SGTC if you use disposable camera transformers to charge up a small cap fast and then discharge it into the primary at a high bps. This was actually my first TC but instead of a USB I used a wall transformer that gave me 6v. However the transistors on the disposable camera boards burnt out fast unfortunately sad . However a SSTC would be more efficient. Maybe SIDAC's might work.

I think you can use a small flyback, I have one that I get it from a Interphone CRT Tube ( 3' Tube), it get 5kV at 5V input. and works with 50kHz. It can charge a few pF, the original onboard was 14pF. You can drive with some Small SOT-3 Mosfets, like that ones that you see on LCD Inverters.

FYI: usb 1.1 (older) provides 500 ma usb 2.0 (newest) provides 100 ma.

Not correct, both USB 1.1 and 2.0 can supply 500mA, but the USB device has to request to be able to draw 500mA. Unless this is done, the device is only allowed to draw 100mA, according to the USB specification. Most USB hosts will let you draw 500mA without enumerating, though, but if you don't, just be aware that some USB hosts might shut off the power if you try to draw over 100mA without asking first.
