There are plans to fix it but the only sensible solution is to replace the forum software and that is quite a lot of work to do properly. Chris is doing all the work and he is very busy. Donations always help, it will probably not do much to speed up the process unless the sum is quite large.

This is the closest guess I can make... To create the required free time then it would have to replace the money lost by not working on something else. So if it takes a few weeks of work to fix the forum, what would it cost to hire someone to do that kind of work full time for a few weeks?

yes certainly, i dont want to seem ungrateful. this has never been a profitable venture for anyone.
thats why im thinking to get the pictures back we users could band together and fund a professional web "fixer" for this one time need. indiegogo, go fund me, or the pay pal link.

It's been almost three more months without inline pictures, except for doing it the hard way. Makes me very sad, although plain text in English can certainly get our messages through. Pictures can replace a lot of words, and add richness to the forum experience.
Are any administrators, or technically savvy volunteers, seeing light at the end of the tunnel? What are the chances that familiar functionality (until about six months ago) will come back within the next six months?
For better or worse, my own visits and posts have been much less frequent than in previous years. Subjectively, it looks like I am not alone in that behavior. Do 4hv traffic statistics show the signature of a once-vibrant forum that's now circling the drain?
p.s. IMHO, the captcha challenge is minor compared to the Attach file(s) / image(s) dialog whose list of "Allowed file types" is empty.
