That's pretty ingenious. Attacks the problem at the wrong level though, in some ways.

I wonder, though... with the volume level many teens use on their sound systems, the ears of adults today might have better high frequency response than many teens. Then how will we get rid of the pesky vermin?

Another thought: CRTs seem to attract teens despite making a noise at the same sort of fres.

My physicis teacher used the same idea to get us oud of his class quicker. He had a sine way generator (1hz - 30khz), he would set it at 14-16khz and turn up the volume.

I visited michigan tech, and some kid had a crown 300W amplifier, a signal generator on his computer set at about 16kHz, and a whole bunch of tweeters wired together to get a 4ohm load at a adequate rating for the amplifier. People would run out of their rooms wondering where the sound was coming from- its hard to tell when it is such a high frequency smile ALso, about car sound systems, they are usually pumping out a lot of bass- many people don't bother to replace the full range/ tweeters, and the high frequencies are more damaging to the ears than bass, even though the bass is sometimes way louder than needed. The only reason i (will) have subs in my car is because I play bass guitar, and really like the low low frequencies that normal speakers cannot reproduce well.

These are a lot of fun... I build them with little ZVS circuits and a 9V battery.. you can add a magnet and place it wherever you want =-)

Not to mention toss into hard-to-reach places on last days of school =P

Birmingham (UK) central bus station has hadsomething similar operating for a few years now,
I don't hear it unless I'm very close (50 year-old ears)
my teenage kids can't stay near it.

Looks like a couple of piezo horn tweeters, guess around 16-20 kHz.

I think it attacks the problem in the wrong way on EVERY level. It's treating kids like rats or moles. sad

I'm beginning to lose the high end of my hearing now, the whining sound from TVs doesn't annoy me any more.
