I imagine it's only the biggest charges taking out the robots. There was some mention of 6" sparks earlier in the thread.

You may not need to discharge everything, just those with the highest charge, Th Christmass decoration should get most of it, certainly those with unusually high charge, and I imagine it also has a fair bit of resistance already.

Talked to the electrical maintenance supervisor about changing the location of grounding straps and adding more closer to the point where the foil is unwound. He brushed it off in ~3 sentence fragments in favor of a "total static control system" with a 5 figure quote >_<

Thank you all for the input but as always you can't fix dumb.

No kidding. How long will an ion sprayer last in a plant that accumulates ~5mm/day of dust on all exposed surfaces?

then you'll have nice things, once it'll have arced all over its own guts ;)

besides that, the reason there is so much dust might be electrostatic as well....

If it was me I'd stay behind after work and put up the 'christmas decorations'.

I'll be bringing some Christmas Garland over the Holliday's to test while middle/upper management is off. If it works I will take it all down, document my results and wait for beurocratic failure to ensue.
