I like flying the $20 Cheerson CX-10 more than the full size quad.... and it's the size of a cookie... FYI... not made in 'merica
NASA is a shadow of what it once was, but I think the defunding cycle will starve out the meritocratic crowds. Looking at SpaceX, we see the lack of an entitled bureaucracy reduces the cost of completing a project.
Russia has some talented people that are still decades ahead of most domestic researchers. Why do you think this is the case? The rhetoric is strong in this text as people can't actually “win†science. However, you will see the volume of low-relevance US Phd papers generated in the past few decades push out interesting projects via competitive-exclusion.
Notably, having systems continuously hacked has shifted most small businesses into the applied-service-sector rather than high-risk ip-research that gets constantly stolen/leaked/replicated.
Do you think people in a high IQ bracket are aware that their IQ drops every time a moron dies?

I have seen this first hand at CSU Chico and other universities, there is a huge push to get government or private money, and just publish as much PhD garbage as possible. there isnt much care these days for usefulness or quality, just get it out in mass. This abuse of US academia does support your Russian comments.

id be willing to buy at tax payer expense every engine the rooskies make then melt them down. This would affirm US national security, and keep the russians pride and ego feeling good.
But you still need to keep their engineers employed, or they may look elsewhere for employment

Fair enough. I did wonder if fitting drones with a Li-metal pack designed for one thing only, a safe controlled landing in the event of a pack fail or disconnect. Hard wired for a safe descent speed even if multiple engines fail it takes over control and a camera picks an open spot of ground to ensure safety.
