You're onto something here Scavenger! Adam and Eve always have belly buttons in those classical paintings. This could be the straw that finally breaks the creationist camp's back wink

Does it really matter whether the earth was created 20,000 years ago, complete with coal, oil, gas, stone age artifacts, fake fossil dinosaurs, and all the other things needed to tempt foolish scientists into believing in evolution- or whether it evolved from a glob of red hot rock 4 billion years ago? No.

To me, doesn't really matter. Whatever floats your boat. I just started this post to express my surprise of learning several fellow co-workers well versed in science and engineering believe in young earth science. I was merely stating an observation i had made.

However, let me leave you with a question. What would you want your children to be taught?

I think this video explains it all . . .

I would want my children to be taught critical thinking in the grand tradition of Kant, Voltaire, Rousseau, Hume, Newton, etc.. This is possibly the only way to defeat the oscurantism of fundamentalist Christianity and Islam. These philosophers sought to defeat the divine claim of princes and kings of their day. What I do not understand is why so many individuals in Western society are seeking to return to "the Age of Faith" that characterised life 1000 years ago....and I include the Islamic world in this too....because, historically, they preserved many aspects of Western culture and science after the fall of the Roman world.

What I would like to know is why Adam and Eve have navels??? If Adam was created by God, and Even from the rib of Adam, then there should be no reason they have navels, right? Also, last time i checked, both man and woman have the same number of ribs . . .

Actually, Cher doesn't have as many ribs as men.

My view is that Evolution was taught to me as fact in school, when in reality, there are many aspects about it that are very much still a theory. I wish they would tell exactly what they do and what they don't and not be so skewed either way. It's annoying to have to look it all up and decide who is right all the time.

This is where your critical thinking is needed. Newtonian mechanics, electrodynamics, relativity, quantum mechanics and evolution are all based on "theory". There is always the possibility that the theory will be augmented or disproved. It is up to you to see where it doesn't hold up.

I wish they would tell exactly what they do and what they don't and not be so skewed either way. It's annoying to have to look it all up and decide who is right all the time.

"Looking it up" is called research! Everybody should do this. Verification is always an extremely important part of critical thinking!

Yes, women actually have fewer ribs EVR.

I remembered something cool that happened to me a while back. I was talking to this guy from a metal band, and he told me he was a Satanist.

So I said: Does that mean that you like killing people, causing pain and suffering, sacrificing chickens and such like?

To which he replied: No, a real Satanist would try their hardest not to hurt any living thing, especially animals.

So to me, it's not about which "Ism" you choose to fly, but what kind of person you are and what your motives are in life.

I'm not going to argue with Part Scavenger and EDY19, but I will mention that evolution seems to be about the most economical explanation of all the material facts that scientists have observed.

I can not tell if you are serious or not, but men and women truly (unless you are Cher) have the same number of ribs Link2

I have personally seen the same number in both men and women during surgical dissection and while performing nerve blocks. Xrays and CT are another method for factual confirmation.

As far as I know, all adult humans have 206 bones in their skeleton...as well as the same number of ribs for men and women...forensic texts make no mention of differing numbers of ribs in men and women...
