I researched many printers. I went with Makergear's M2 based on the fact that
I wanted to be able to print ABS or PLA I only needed one color I wanted a heated bed I wanted reasonable printing speed and a good print volume
The reviews were good and there is a support forum. I went with a kit because it was cheaper, but more importantly it gave me a better understanding of how the printer works.
So far everything is good. I'm spending more time refining my CAD images. I had an issue for my first two printing attempts, but I believe I resolved this by adjusting the gap between the extruder and printing bed. Unlike a standard printer, there are a few tweeks needed to get it working. So far, these have been very manageable and I've gotten some nice parts out of it. The forum has been extremely helpful and the printer has worked very well.
The slicer program I am using is simple. My project box (although still evolving) costs only $2 to build, when this would have cost about $10. I can also make it exactly the way I want.
ABS is strong, but does have an odor when heated beacause it is a petroleum product. I have installed my Slicer program on my iMac and laptop. I moved the printer into my garage on a table along with the laptop, so the odor is not an issue.
I expect this to be a nice complement to my development tools.

Have some ideas for a "fly vomit" based copper printer.
Any takers? The plan is to use a mimetic gel to act as an ionic salt, then move it slowly to lay down copper over an existing somewhat conductive graphite layer.
Might be patentable but I decided on this occasion to release it to the Community rather than the expensive alternative in the hopes that others can improve on it. -A
