Hi guys,

I'm no genious when it comes to network setups, so I was just wondering what tactics you would employ to block or deny access inbound to your system from a website that is giving you problems.

My problem description: Yes, I still use AOL, say what you want, I don't care, ...the problem is when I open my mail box, a malicious web site loads, "www.atdmt.com", and gets in my way.

I have set up all I can on my computer to deny it access, and my last hope is to deny it inbound access through the router, I guess...?

It would be easy to do on the old Linksys router....which I was real happy with, except for the fact that my Mom/Brother have to screw with everything, so now we have this POS "Tenda" router, and it's a hassle to deal with.

So, I was just wondering what you guys do, outside of setting up the router. If that's my only option, that's fine too, I'll work with it if I have to. This "www.atdmt.com" site is a real bastard to block.

Hi Hazmatt_(The Underdog)
If you use firefox, you could download noscript, and not select to open stuff from them.
You could find the host.txt on your computer and enter there url in there to block it.

Hi Hazmatt,

Try using GRC Shields up

It can show you if you have any open ports on your computer.

The simplest way is what Andy says: use the hosts file to block the connections, along with NoScript (or ScriptSafe if you are using a chromium - based browser). You can download a ready - made hosts file that includes most of the known maleware, adware and other similar sites here.

Thanks for your input guys. I'll try to see if I can block it completely with the host file suggestion.

I did a search on my computer and it didn't turn up anything. It seems that this site is very invasive to others as well.

well...

i am a bit later, but try adblock and add whole site there (works with new opera, chrome, firefox... )

also opera (12.xx version, not new one) had blocking feature, which worked similar way, new one does not.

also, if you are little bit familiar, try to search what are you looking for , i cannot be more specific, but for example if you are using some application, there may be some setting like load this page at startup ini file... and so on.
Antivirus with firewall could also help.

I added the host site names for the atdmt to the host file, and on re-start it worked fine!

So.. it's working so far. It's just re-directing that site to the local host..which is nowhere. I don't even get blank pop-up windows, so I'm glad it's working for now.
Course...they'll probably come up with some new Java script to hijack my computer again... bastards.
