I can't do anything this year because I live in the middle of nowhere. Two years ago, everyone freaked out over a tiny Jacob's Ladder. So, I'm sure most of you have something impressive set up. Perhaps it's high-voltage. Anyone putting out Tesla Coils?

No tesla coil.

For this year: put a 12" speaker at the bottom of the trash can on the side of the house fed by my old Uher tape recorder with echo feature (second read head feeding back to the forward recording head). Very effective with a microphone and computer supplied scary noises on a slow setting for cavernous cave like sound. A small CCD in the front tree aimed at the door allows me to see the "victims" approaching the sweet spot before they even ring the bell. MUHahaha....

Big cap discharge from two last year was Ok but too much trouble (and smell after several shots) and once the door is opened the element of surprise is a bit lost. Will see how the speaker goes this year. Got a free full bag of treats last year that a kid was too scared to retrieve back.... waited for a week.

Apart from a small pumpkin in front of the house, everything looks low key and "harmless" so they don't expect anything special, compared to some neighbors elaborate setups....

Don't have anything Halloween themed planned. However, does the monster hangover I will have the morning after count?

Using one big DR, we put on the "Cage of Death" wink during Halloween. Eric Goodchild was doing a keyboard improv of Bach's Fugue at the time.
My wife helped with the lighted sign. Just the right amount of broken lamps to cast a "Scary Carnival" look.

My son Christian programmed an old industrial robot to deliver candy to the kids entering the Halloween show.

Everyone had a great Halloween!
Jeff

Pretty well actually.

Small kids and parents were equally amused. I had removed the lights on that side of the house. Echo and reverberation between the houses also helped the sounds. Quiet soft whispers and scratches were even more effective than loud noises.....

Unfortunately it rained between 6:30 and 7:30 which was prime time for the younger kids. Each year we see a decline due to the age demography. Most kids of 25 years ago are now gone and the original owners are "emptynesters" that have not been replaced by younger families (us included).

I also though of using the drone with a white sheet (as seen on utube) but the rain cancelled that idea too.

Overall just as much fun as the hv stuff, safer and much less of a hassle.... cant compete with redruM69 or nixie however smile

But they're f*cking Tesla Coils! Adults or kids, they should have drawn a crowd!
