This is becoming a nice thread for the research I have done over the years on the best way to live of the grid all though it is about efficiency. Also I need to work on efficient ways to use Nichrome wire and other tools for Recycling electronics My Business Just lifted off the ground I get a commercial space tomorrow I may be thinking of new lighting and Heating solutions It is reaching the cold months here.

ikea ones (or similar like the philips models or so) are well designed in that they are of decent power, have an SMPS, and have a socket which acts as a convection cooler designed to circulate air through holes strategically placed around the body shape

I can say to the touch that they are less than 40C after a few hours of use

I guess yours are something like this then: Link2 Mine are comparable in that they produce 1275 Lumens (claimed) from 20 Watts (from Homebase). I've not found the exact one online, but they are similar to these: Link2

I've been doing some research into Lumens per Watt, and, apparently Samsung launched some back in March that can achieve 170 Lumens per watt, although I've not found anyone who stocks them yet.

]application_guide_lm561b_rev1.0-1.pdf[/file]

The application notes also give directions for soldering by hand.

There are a few that can achieve 150 Lumens per Watt (Cree do one), which is at least twice as efficient as the 'best' claims of the LED bulb manufacturers, although I'm sure these 'super LED's' aren't cheap.

mien are more like this one : Link2

they are a bit different in that they have holes in the collar, but they are 400 lumen ones

I can tell you those are a very close match to some 60W incandescent bulbs, I have one of each in one room and I can see no difference, just that the LEDs are a bit more eye-friendly in term of glaring

I think a 20W bulb would be a bit too much...

An aspect to EHVT may be the shortage of iron core transformers for high voltage transmission.
In a widespread disaster, it might take two years to make enough replacements.

The the EHVT modules that make up the system can be changed on the fly, if one fails,
the systems continues with a somewhat lower output.

If an iron core megawatt transformer blows or is damaged, it is down cold entirely.
