Hi all.
Just read something interesting, that the DSM-5 now classes hoarding as a "mental illness".
The problem is that this effectively means the State can designate anyone a "hoarder" and confiscate their collection even though it may not be otherwise causing issues, just because a random neighbour decides to ruin someone's life or they get caught up in a random drugs raid/police visit/etc.
I dread to think how many HV, amateur radio and small time electronics repairers this is going to affect, not to mention the survivalist types. $Deity help anyone into hobbyist level chemistry, this is the last thing they need.
Call me paranoid but the State have been trying to do this for years and the DSM gives them the means, motive and opportunity to force everyone to buy new equipment that will last even less time than the old, reliable Pb-Sn soldered type, and stop even the casual salvage of broken equipment by prohibiting homeowners from collecting it using fines under the guise of "protecting the environment" .
I've been predicting that this would happen for years, shows like "Extreme Hoarders" don't help matters as this might give someone an incentive to rat on their neighbour who happens to like fixing stuff.

Hmm. Methinks its actually all about punishing small time recyclers so all the schitt can be sent to (insert country here) and dismantled for pence an hour at huge environmental cost.

Yes. It's technically illegal in Europe now for anyone to re-cycle anything without the appropriate license.

So im not ment to take appart loads of electronics, desolder every component and cut the boards up put some cork on the back and make them into coasters? ;o

Not if the pcb is an old one with lead in the solder ! (re-manufactured = new = subject to EU ROHS etc.)
I doubt that most of us will have problems due to these regulations. (even a Muslim convert with a name like Sulaiman Abdullah and a Taliban-like beard :<)
If you sell stuff that's a different story.
U.K. has hoarding as a national hobby - collecting stuff is so common. see how many 'antiques'/'cash-in-attic' type tv shows we have.
None of us Humans are actually "normal", (it's a very wide multi-dimensional bell curve) especially me, and most of my accquaintances, and forum peers ! (and what "normal" person would want to be a Psychiatrist anyway ! )
IF they want to get you they will, there's a plethora of laws that could be used. If you are generally law abiding I wouldn't worry.
AFAIK currently it only needs two Psychiatrists signatures to lock you up without trial in USA, here in UK for 28 days etc.

I did notice this clause in the WEEE regulations, but somewhere it also mentions "reuse". So I am "reusing" the components to make new stuff, your Honour. Honest
Re. Humans, personally I feel there should be two different species designations, Homo Sapiens Sapiens for normal unmodified people, and Homo Sapiens Cyborgensis for cyborgs (edit- official name as seen on t'internets)

Well, then people who like to stretch their earlobes with those crazy wooden plugs should be a separate species too.
One definition of a species is something with a genotype discrete enough that it can't interbreed with another species. You can have any amount of chips (or freakish piercings or whatever) implanted in your body, but it won't make a bit of difference to your DNA, you will still be a regular Homo sapiens and your offspring will be Homo sapiens too.
When (if?) a cyber implant capable of editing DNA is invented, things will get interesting.
