I have read that Zeners are a good idea to add to the H-Bridge for extra protection. I choose some 20v 1W zeners and just want to make sure where they go.

Does it go across the Gate and the Source pin and do I use two back to back for each fet or just one for each.

Thanks

Yes to both. You need two zeners back to back in series, because if you only used one, it would break down at 0.7V in the reverse direction. This would clamp the voltage on the GDT and prevent the other FETs from turning on.

like so ?
1370333842 3114 FT154415 Zener Mosfet

EDIT: Also I have a couple ferrite cores here and I was wondering if I need a special one, I have this one on mouser Link2

But I also have some already, I have two that are yellow with one white side, that came from an old PSU one is quite large (30mm in dia and 11mm in width) Plus I have some regular ferrite (value unknown) solid black and they come in various sizes.

Would the large yellow one work or should I spend the money on the one from Mouser?

Is bigger better or s there a limit?

Thanks

Those yellow ones will definately not work. They are powered iron cores, not ferrite cores.

The other two appear ferrite, but who really knows what their characteristics are. We carry a variety of ferrite cores, or you can also purchase them from several other suppliers on the web.

Our flexiBrute type 77-1 cores will work perfectly for your application.

That looks perfect but I am trying to order all from the same place to keep shipping costs low :/

also is that the correct orientation for the Zener diodes?

The epcos N87 cores you linked work great. I use them for all my mini sstc's and CT's. But I use the ones that are epoxy coated, just to protect it from knicks and chips..

If you are located in the US, i'll send you some free cores your way. Just give me your mailing address.
