The ZVS has a tuned primary, so it is a double resonant system, only parallel not series. However the same theory of coupled circuits and resonant poles applies. A long time ago I was messing with the "zvs" SSTC as well, and it did also want to jump to one of the poles and didn't want to run at the exact secondary resonant frequency.

hey thanks for all the insight
I am using a cap with 4.45nf and 4 turns on the primary, I can draw inch long arcs form the secondary, if I go to 3 turns on the primary I get a 1/2in purple discharge off the ground when its brought near the break out point. But I still can seem to get the secondary breakout.
The coil is about 5.5in tall and 1in in diameter.
would is help if I had more turns on my inductors ? More turns= more volts out on the coil side right ?
