Did anyone else just see Steve Conner on James Mays man lab (BBC2)? He was showing off his tesla coil.

May's reaction was priceless lol.

Yeah, just saw it here too. Nice one Steve.

Excellent demo, and loved watching May's reaction too.

I thought it was great how Steve's solid-state coil produced lightning on demand at the push of a button and was more reliable than actually firing a trail of wire into a real thunder cloud!!! I remember not long ago when Tesla Coils where finicky difficult beasts to get working and demo. Not least the solid-state ones!

Did you watch to the end when Steve played the show out?

This should be available on BBC iPlayer in the UK for those who missed it, and elsewhere I guess for those who know how to do that clever proxy thing.

-Richie,

Yes I did see that part too, really great that was Steve!

Here are some screen-shots for those who are not in the UK and cannot watch manlab (legally) on iPlayer.

Hope Steve doesn't mind me posting them here for others to see.

Fame at last :D... For those outside the UK, I believe the show may be found on the Pirate Bay already.

In the early days I had a lot of discussions with GeordieBoy about reliability of solid-state coils. With his help I thought I had figured out the main pitfalls and could build a DRSSTC that would just work without blowing up.

On the Man Lab shoot I was somewhat worried that Murphy's Law might finally catch up with me, but everything went fine. For extra providence tempting, I gave the controls to James May and let him work it. He was delighted when he figured out that it could make fart noises.

I'm currently working on an installation that will run for a month at this summer's Edinburgh Fringe.

@EasternVoltageResearch here you go. Hopefully the BBC don't find and remove it just yet.

Very cool! I love the reverberation of the low frequency arc sounds in the room! Sweet!
