anyone knows where can I get some better insulation than HV oil? or the name of a epoxy that I can use, I'm working at 80KV

Fully dried oil intended as HV insulation has an incredibly high dielectric strength, something on the order of 10-15 MV per metre. Are you sure that your oil is clean and free of moisture? If your working with a transformer or similar, have you pulled a vacuum over it to eliminate air pockets? Oil should be more than enough insulation for 80kV.

If you need something stronger than oil, perhaps a very thick layer of super-high-quality PTFE sheeting? The trouble with solid dielectrics is getting a good seal on the surface you're insulating, to eliminate surface tracking. I've had a coil fail because it surface-tracked underneath the Teflon tape, something I've never witnessed with oil.

I read recently that boiled coconut oil is better than standard transformer oil, but I've not tried it. See the link in my thread on self resonance.

Fluorinert if you're able to have it submerged.

Thanks guys I found this list so I'm going to try a few things

Dielectric strength comparison between materials
Material * Dielectric strength (kV/inch)
Vacuum 20
Air 20 to 75
Porcelain 40 to 200
Paraffin Wax 200 to 300
Transformer Oil 400
Bakelite 300 to 550
Rubber 450 to 700
Shellac 900
Paper 1250
Teflon 1500
Glass 2000 to 3000
Mica 5000

and also this list Link2

transformer oil seems to be stronger than Fluorinert according to the link

20 kV/inch in a vacuum... seems legit mistrust

I've had really good experience with paraffin wax at high voltages/high frequencies, but its physical properties and melting point can be a problem.

My research suggested 200kV/cm....or 1MV/2 inches

I'll try and dig up some links when I'm sober in the morning. smile

define vacuum..... mistrust
below 10^-3 torr it's very hard to get any kind of discharge, this is why we use thermionic emission in x-ray tubes.

shellac is easy to obtain in powdered form, used for pyrotechnics widely

One thing to keep in mind - if you are planning on potting or submerging any high frequency circuits - be sure to account for the added dielectric constant as this will add a lot of stray capacitance in your circuit.
