I would assume that a VTTC would be more fragile too, just because of the tube, and therefore would not be suitable for a portable system. Unless of course you construct a very solid and sturdy base assembly that will protect your tube.

That sucks. also. ya know. am a noobie. a sstc seems just like what i want (IT IS what i want) but can i use a 18-0-18 15 amps super heavy duty transformer instead that 20 volt at 1 amp thing? also i have 220 volts here and i decided 5 inches width and 40 cm lenght sec coil@ 24-26-30 awg enamel. whatever i find. i assume the thinner the better and the coolest part. i have a super long old radio antenna :) and i have a gigantormous heat sink what modifications do i need to do in the mini tesla coil schematic. just a easy schematic. my main goal is a continious wave 20 inch ARCS that are hot :D

The problem with CW VTTCs is that one does not simply fullwave rectify a MOT. However, running on half wave doubled voltage is easy and a VTTC requires just a few components: (you can leave out the SCR, L4 and R2 for maximum simplicity)
