Well I can tell you that my wife is not comfortable sending are daughter to school anymore the only way I would like the gun thing is if Only one person like the principle was psychologically evaluated to ensure he/she is not nuts and then if you want to go further bar up the windows Because in the Connecticut issue the nut broke a window and entered that way and maybe a biometric scanner at all the doors because they can record and store hundreds of prints for the parent/employee's that way if you do not belong to that school you will not enter but there is still many cases the kids wont be safe be we will never eliminate all of the threats Like bombs or what ever. I am a Security officer at the local Hospital and I even worry about that situation there.

Bar up all the windows? And how do the kids get out in case of a fire? How would the police/fire get in to help? That's really limiting your options.

And arming every teacher is a really bad idea. When you stop and think about it, you're really just providing a skilled "terrorist" the opportunity of more weapons. Think about it, he walks in un-armed, no problems, passes all the metal detectors and everything, finds a room and attacks a teacher because he is a skilled martial artist, then goes from there.
It's a silly movie plot, but there ya go.

It's not a great idea, but you could have another alarm like the fire alarm, it's a silly idea, but other than taking care of crazy people which cannot be identified as crazy, I don't see much of a solution in sight.

Well no need to fix the bars still Maybe heavy duty internal latches for fire egress but non the less we need to accept the fact that there is never enough security for any one on the planet even Obama him self could be shot and killed no offense to anyone just saying.

Maybe having the Media to stop covering the shooter as a pop star would help a lot!

Monkey see, monkey do ;)

The next one is already planning something bigger by now. To get more space at the news, you know!?

EDIT: Apparently, Adam Lanza had "Asberger's syndrome and was 'into technology'" (something he shares with a number of members of this forum).

Indeed, some of the members perspectives are fascinating, but around 20 % of the entire population will experience mental health issues at some point in their life.

Stress from trauma, drugs (legally aside), physical injury, and genetics all increase the probability one may experience an episode. Unfortunately, around 1% of people don't respond to treatment, and an episode may eventually become a chronic condition.
(In the case of 4hv: 2306*.2*.01=4.6 members that are likely deranged.)

Diagnosis is often a statistical curve that classifies an individual's behavior, but cultural stigma often prevents proper preemptive care. Additionally, a paranoid delusional individual with sociopath-like tendencies often studies their own condition in an attempt to hide symptoms. Some professions have a higher statistical occurrence of these individuals, and for example if you are a stock-broker there is a 70% chance you will be classified well above the level of a narcissistic personality disorder.

Indeed, some organizations exploit the illusion of control, which for these individuals would be perceived as power over other people. They are not necessarily dangerous unless you happen to get in the way of their behavior.

I wager Freud would have classified the current NRA paranoia as a latent fear of the government taking away their semi-automatic-gun/penises... Luckily, Freud was only a rather odd cocaine addict whose theories are often dubious.
wink

Would you want to know if you are one of the 4.6?

What I meant is that Asperger's it not necessarily something to worry too much about. Tesla was 'obsessive', even in early life, before his later 'troubles'. Einstein was also obsessive....I could go on...

I also believe that, given the right (or rather, wrong) circumstances, anyone could be pushed 'over the edge'.....Personality disorders are 'aquired' rather than 'hereditary'.

Its entirely possible that the specific neural connections responsible for creativity generate instability.
Essentially the extra neurons link between areas of the brain normally isolated, so that "flash of insight" might have originated in the olfactory processing area.
Also explains how many gifted artists and musicians have the ability to "see" sounds and hear colours.

Yes, I agree. Creativity is basically making new connections between concepts, over and above the traditional ones you've been taught to make. When you do it everyone thinks you are mentally unstable, unless you have the good fortune to get rich or famous through one of your ideas, then you are a genius. smile
